DYNAMIC BRAND DESIGN
BRANDING THE PROTEST
INTERACTIVE CHILDBOOK
The aim of the assignment is to develop a branding of a protest movement that does not yet exist. In addition, various media expressions are developed to make the branding a very successful movement.
For every brand, protest or movement the logo is the biggest component of the entire brand identity. After lots of research on my brand concept I sketched away with sheep figures, icons and more. I chose the upper middle sheep logo with the red slash.
For the colours I wantd to avoid using the standard colours that would be RED, BLACK, GREEN etc. I ended up using red and black as my primaire colours to enhance the feeling of the protest movement. For the rest of the brand I used lots of vibrant colours in textures and images.
I wanted to give the movement a bit of a rough feel, handmade, personal and a bit mix and match. This way the brand could be reproduced in different ways, with different mediums without losing it's identity. It also made it easier for people to make their own signs and props due to not having strict guidelines.
Using certain brushes from 'Pro create' helped a lot with adding to the sketched look and gave the logo more space to expand into different shapes and give out a different feeling without losing it's face. I made sure to look at opacity, stroke length, colours, density, trailing, stroke thickness etc.
No ones just magically wakes up and goes 'I am awakened' well they might but not all. I sketched the sheep in stick figure doodle form to show how a sheeply would go through different stages of enlightment. Before in the end becoming a WOLF.
On the list of many merch i've created, stickers was one i particularly enjoyed. I primarily used text as a medium to get more of the movement across. I included a small white border around all text and designs to make sure it would stand out on any stuck to surface.
To create a protest I needed to design merch that would speak to the target audience. With customisable shirts I help the crowd to become more unique and sketch their own image. I chose for primaire colours, red yellow and blue. With these colours you can create maximum blends and designs.
With every brand and movement there are the key attributes such as signs and banners. I created a variety of tees, hoodies, caps, signs, a vlag and for safety measures masks.
For the website I created a simple layout with informative pages to help the target audience experience the movement right from where they are scrolling.
Here is a mock-up of the mobile app i created, the design originated from the website. Important functions were finding protest near you, signing in and ordering merch.
This project concerns the creation of a Dynamic corporate identity for the Amsterdam dutch design museum. This assignment is being made for the Amsterdam Design Museum and should give the famous 'Dutch Design' more meaning. The idea for the design museum came about as a result of budget cuts and the fragmentation of the Dutch design archives. The aim of this assignment is to create a clear identity for this new museum. This identity must be communicated to the general public through various media. In addition, this brand identity must be universally applicable to all media communications.
The fingerprint. Our DNA. The lines that define us. The lines we follow, our heritage, our values. Our ways of creating. These lines shape us, guide us, enslave us. We, Dutch tribe. Tend to go beyond the lines. We at Amsterdam Dutch Design. Go right across, through, above and below the lines.
For every brand, protest or movement the logo is the biggest component of the entire brand identity. After lots of research on my concept I sketched away with different identity icons, such as profile sillouette, DNA strings and finger patterns. I ended up diving deeper in fingerprints and out of 3 design chose my final logo. FULL LOGO SKETCH BOOK CLICK HERE
Before experimenting with colours, I took some time to research the psycology behind every colour. I wanted to expand the horizon with the colours to give the museum a very in depth and broad feel. To enhance the that dutch design is going beyond the lines of standard museum experiences.
Here are some sketches and experimental tries with the colour line before presenting the logo.
For the dynamic design museum I wanted to create an element that could change in appearance, colour, shape and more, and still be able to maintain it's identity. Here I experimented with different lines that might represent the lines within the logo. I ended up using the lines within the logo itself in an abstract and simplified method.
Here I took apart the logo and cropped it into squares where they create inriguing and dynamic shapes. These shapes and patterns will be used all over my designs to enhance the concept of 'beyong the lines'
For the museum I wanted a font that was a bit broader than usual and had thick font possibilities. I chose Nevis Bold as my typography for the logo, header, subheaders and all quotes. The allround font for text and paragraphs was montserrat, the font your reading now. Which is a very modern and solid font.
Simple business card sketches that show a small variety of experiments. The first row was realised as final design.
Here are sketches of regual letters. The first two sketches were realised as final design.
Here you can see I conciously chose to place the dynamic pattern over the artists work. As to say 'Behind our gates' you can see this artist. It gives a mysterious and attraction to the artists work.
For the website I created 5 pages. HOME, COLLECTIONS, TICKETS, ABOUT US & CONTACT. Each page opens with a Banner that covers an image with the familiar dynamic pattern. The layout is covered wide over full screen. Fonts used are NEVIS BOLD and MONTSERRAT.
Here you can see a more of the website, such a corona meassurements safety page, online ticket register and about us page.
Mock up design of a vlag design for the amsterdam dutch design museum.
This project is about presenting myself to my classmates and the teachers. Writing a script for a short film in which I take the viewer into my world. Write a story, based on this make a movie poster and a movie trailer.
Taking the viewer into a methaporical trailer. Where I go through small challenges to get my hands on a rugby ball to win a trophee. The rugbyball represents the driven curiousity and passion. The challenges represent life's challenges and the trophee is the rewards at the end. The message? Keep going.
The colours were to be a bit faded, dark and moody still the victory was there. The trailer would be a real life action filmed with me as the actor. Genre: Action, comedy and adventure.
For my trailer I was using myself as an actor, which meant me posing, running and taking on certain poses in the shots. To create an easy base layer for my storyboard, I took photo's of myself in the position I was going to present myself for the trailer. This saved a lot of time looking up references.
Before planning the date to film the shots I made a quick and accesible storyboard so the shots would be easier to capture. I focussed on different angles and transitions.
Here are a few shots of the trailer in it's final stages. My wish to have the trailer shot at night was unfortunately not realised. I shot in clear daylight which gave the trailer a completely different feel. I colour graded most of the footage to salvage a small part of the trailer.
In the end I went over the trailer to select the most appealing and mysterious scene. I placed the movie title and other typography on the poster in photoshop. Colour graded and added some gradient layers. Then exported as high quality PDF.
The aim of the assignment is to write, illustrate and design a digital children's story. The story may be crude, an adult problem in a childish way. This children's book is digitally realized and presented in a prototype mobile tablet. Story and entertainment / interactivity are paramount. The educational significance of the traditional children's book comes second.
Children tend to be quite impulsive, just the way we like it. They also like to go out and explore. But most forget that actions have consequences and that adventure doesn't always mean fun. This dutch childrens book is all about, making choices, expecting the unexpected and following your own instincts.
Research. Most of the research I had was on how to make an interactive Children's book and what were the most crucial elements to understand before designing. I took a target audience of 8 till 11 years old. Kids that love adventure, make independent choices and have strong characteristics. HERE YOU CAN SEE MY RESEARCH PDF
After lots of research, writing the story and picking the typography. I started on my most crucial book elements. The characters, backgrounds and buttons. These elements would lay foundation to all my book pages.
Pretty early on in the process of sketching I knew what I wanted in terms of the style of the book. My storyboard was therefore drawn with lots of detail and filled with almost all the final pages This gave more room to focus on details and rounding off rough edges.
To help sell the concept better. I created a triology. BOOK 1 is the book I designed. The storyline is based in the forest. BOOK II & BOOK III are in different enviroments such as the ocean and in the jungle. The theme and genre of adventure remain the same, the story and experiences are different.
For the landscapes I wanted to keep the enviroment down to minimal changes in colour and sillhoutes. I created 3 background with different seasons and colours. I added different animations and elements to help give each backround a new fresh feel.
